1. Moby Dick - Herman melville
2. Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
3. War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy
4. The Fionavar Tapestry - Guy Gavriel Kay
5. His Dark Materials (trilogy) - Philip Pullman

first 3 are generic "greatest literature ever written" times magazine crap but, i don't know, i like them, ALOT. the fionavar tapestry is a great fantasy epic and his dark materials really taught me alot.

i wanted to put in the golden book of faerie but i felt these others were a bit better.

Edit: might i add anything by Ayn Rand? atlas shrugged... the fountainhead... anthem...

wasnt a fan of SFTD

Neither was I, was fairly boring for a good portion of the book. I usually read series and I liked

1. Ender's series (along with Bean's)
2. The Bourne series (the movies didn't even follow the books, but were still entertaining)
3. Harry Potter
4. Jurassic Park and Lost World

I'm probably the only one here that hated the Ender's Shadow series. Anyways, here's my top 5:

1. Ender's Game - the rest of the series did not do it for me, but this book is truely one of a kind. becomes more interesting after each read
2. The Awakening - definately one of the best climatic endings
3. Wuthering Heights - just a classic, nothing much more to say, "live free or die hard"
4. From Whom The Bells Tolls - leave it to hemmingway to remind us of mortality
5. My Antonia - honestly, i thought it was an average book, but its symbolism and theme was something just great

All 7 Harry Potter books
Any of the Magic the Gathering series
Eregon Eldest and Brisinger
I know that's more than five but you really can't just read one book in a series, and I wanted to at least give a variety instead of just saying Harry Potter FTW.
