i thought it was a wonderful book. Fitzgerald is an amazing classic American author... maybe when you're older.

So? Wtf does MY age have to do with anything? I didn't say "when you are older relative to me." dumbass. I'm just capable of appreciating literary works to a higher extent than most of the people my age, and typically when people age and mature, they are able to appreciate these literary works more. so, "Maybe when you're older". Works just fine... dumbass.

Bottom line, The Great Gatsby is an amazing example of classic American literature.

Had to read this for A-level as 1 of 2 novels. And IMO not a great book. Can see how it appeals to people as it explores many aspects of post WW1 American society, just not my cup of tea though. Felt "The Kite Runner" was much better, well worth reading.

the great gatsby was dry and boring... fitzgerland is an incredible writer, not arguing that. his writing is rivaled by few, but the story sucks. did not keep my interest at all, though i managed to grind my way through it. a 200 page book felt like it was at least twice that length, and i fell asleep three times while reading it

This book is required in most secondary schools because it contains a lot of literary 'mechanisms' for a lack of a better term.

I agree. The thing I don't really understand is how someone can read this book and not enjoy it. I think it's amazing, but to each his own?

Has there been any change in the general opinion of this book?
