i would recomend reading the riftwar novels by Raymond E. Feist
thought that they were an interesting read

Eragon/Eldest/Brisingr by Christopher Paolini - first 2 books are amazing, 3rd 1 Brisingr comes out Sept. 20th

DragonLance Chronicles (if you end up liking those read Legends afterwards)
The Wayfarer Redemption series (6 books total - the last three are the best)
