Did I ever say that? Harry Potter and LotR are, as far as I'm concerned, kids books. And if I were to want to read a kids book, I'd read His Dark Materials.
I happen to be a big fan of the fantasy genre, something anyone who regularly visits this subforum would know because I always suggest fantasy series that I enjoyed to other people.
Next time don't jump to conclusions.

Are you serious? You really think LOTR is a kid's book? It is so not a kid's book...

both are good in their own way

LOTR had a lot of thought put into the story (new language was made up etc etc) HP storyline h as a lot of discrepancy in it but still enjoyable

Both are brilliant.

But...putting Harry Potter next to LOTR is just a joke.

I read it when I was 12, hence it's a kids book.

Mozart mastered the piano at the age of four.. Do you hence think that the piano is a child's instrument? kiddie music?

I read Silmarillion when I was around 12.. In English, and I'm norwegian. I wouldn't recommend it to other 12 year olds though

I wasn't calling myself a genius though, which Mozart undoubtedly was, in the musical sense anyway.

Actually, I'd agree that LOTR is a kids book, because it can't really be analyzed for symbolism and stuff the way great classic literature can. It's just... a story. An interesting story, of course, but not much more than that. This is why it's easily readable by younger readers.

Actually, I take that back. That doesn't make it a "kids' book." Many adults read it. It's simply not a very deep or thought-provoking novel.
