I'm no writer or critic (I'm far too easy to please to give criticism) but I imagine it's probably taboo to copy another author's style even if you're finishing his work.

I wouldn't say it's taboo, it's more that as an artist, you want to distinguish yourself. He could have been "that guy who finished someone else's series," but instead chose to show his on style. It's easy to impersonate, creativity is much more important than talent in pretty much any art form.

Fair enough.

Thanks.

I haven't finished Towers of midnight yet but there's something... let's call it a trend... in these books that drives me absolutely crazy and I need to vent.

***MANY SPOILERS***

Why under the light B) does anyone even bother taking prisoners? Each and every single time this occurs it winds up being a complete disaster.

Sure, Nynaeve and Elayne got a bunch of cool tricks out of Moghedien but they had to induce a riot and destroy half of a palace to get her attention then yank a legend (Birgitte Silverbow) out of the world of dreams almost killing her and themselves in order to capture Moghedien and, in the end, she just escapes anyways.

Semirhage is another perfect example... Everyone says kill her but nooooo... Semirhage blasts Rand's bloody hand off but he refuses to let anyone hurt her. She, then, escapes and compels Rand to nearly strangle his lover to death, in turn, driving him even more bonkers than he already is.

Next thing you know Elayne bloody Trakand gets kidnapped, saved, captures the Black Ajah sisters that kidnapped her and proceeds to get stabbed in her pregnant womb when they escape. Brilliant.

Oh yeah and remember when Padan Fain was being held in Fal Dara? He got out with "Mat's" dagger (the only means of keeping Mat alive) and the Horn of Valere. No big deal.

There are even more instances of this kind of failure on behalf of the antagonists. Be it Seanchan, Black Ajah, White Tower Loyalists, Forsaken, Etc. While these are considered victories from the reader's point of view they don't change the fact that not a single faction in the series seems capable of actually keeping they're prisoners secure...

Just finished Towers of Mightnight.

Excellent book. It's good to see Rand, Lan and Perrin getting their shit together.

The whole tower of Ghenjei adventure was awesome.

Egwene is being dumb acting like she knows how to handle the return of Shai'tan better than Rand does but I guess it's to be expected.

Anyways, super excited to start the final book... In a way it's kind of sad that a series I first picked up 11 years ago is finally coming to a close. It's been a ride but it had to end some time... *sigh*

A Memory of Light

I'm speechless. This book hit me right in the feels.

I couldn't ask for a more perfect ending.

What a ride.
