Trust has always, and will forever be, the central issue as to why the problem Tom Marvolo Riddle wasn't t00ken care of, as it were, earlier. Dumbledore just didn't trust enough.

Oh and Harry gets owned... but sadly enough Rowling brings him back with some lame ass excuse for a "magical" explanation ohmy.gif.
