Tho now I'm reading some Gaston Leroux, his style is amazing to me, the way he writes is simple to read, very clean yet the vocabulary can be surprising and it's very enjoyable.

As a huge 'inspiration' to Lovecraft-- you may want to read about / look into the works of Lord Dunsany. Quite an eye-opener.
