For sure. A Song of Ice and Fire is basically the War of the Roses, etc. It's just kind of funny to study Tolkien next to Beowulf or the Sagas (Beowulf leads an army of 12 warriors and 1 thief against a dragon that is terrorizing his kingdom/ took a bunch of gold... sound familiar?).
Nothing against Tolkien or GRRM though, of course. They're both fantastic.
