Eh not really true, but in some cases I must agree ;P

as a rule of thumb, if there is a scantly clad lady looking mischievous or tough, or a muscular guy in a desert holding a sword, or some half naked people on horseback, i try and stay away from them because i have a feeling i wont like it. (sorry Terry Brooks, a lot of people recommend you but i cant get past all the horrible tropes that plague the genre!)
i know im probably missing out on some things though.

Foundation saga by Asimov. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Dune by Frank Herbert. Neuromancer by William Gibson.

HHGttG already read, i will have to read up on the other two, but ive heard of Asimov (although idk if i would like him), and Dune is pretty famous too.

honestly, i really dont like judging based on covers, but sometimes a cover will tell you everything you need to know about a book, especially hardcore genre-specifics like fantasy or scifi.

i'm trying to find The Long Earth in my local library, or resort to buying it, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Long_Earth
sounds very interesting, but again, it could easily be one of those "good premise, poor execution," stories.

That looks really cool, I think I'm gonna look into it
I'm also looking around for some good sci-fi books, which I've never really been into.

Right now I'm reading the Illustrated Man, a collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury. You should check it out if you haven't yet.

You said not to judge a book by it's cover, it's actually true in this case (not relevant to topic but thought I'd have to post ><)

The Swordbearer - Glen Cook
The first pic is what I had when I first saw the book, was like "Ooh snap! looks really nice!"
Second picture is what I found when I went on Goodreads to check some more info about it.

And man this book is not worth reading (so far)>< Second picture fits way more acurately
1. 2.
