although a steed is technically supposed to be a horse, i think in this usage it could be anything you could ride that would transport you, thus a time machine, such has the one in HG Wells' Time Machine, would be top pick; second pick if the DeLorean from Back to the Future were allowed.

How would you imagine Cthulhu look like? I mean there's a boatload of different interpretations of him >_< And you could always wear darkened goggles so you won't see him as clearly as without^

He'd be huge, with wings, arms, legs, and long tentacles on his face.

On his back would be a closed, airtight structure that is actually another dimension (I guess like a Tardis) so that no matter how much turbulence we hit, it wouldn't affect me at all as long as I'm inside the building.

And I'd have some non-euclidian art to make the place look nice and confusing.

Actually I think in this context, a steed would be an animal you ride, not anything you ride.
Would your time machine be noble?

while an inanimate object would not be considered noble in the sense that it is of high rank, notable reputation, or ideal morals, it could have the ability to be of excellent quality or craftsmanship, which I suppose could be attributed to many everyday objects. it may not have the gallantry, but it has its noble purposes ;)

Valid argument Winterschapel, that a steed is actually a archaic usage of the word horse. But it's also used (or so I've read) that it's something that you ride on so essentially it could be ANYTHING.

I guess a time machine in this contex COULD be alright, but I was mainly focusing on 'living' organisms. As in my opinion something you RIDE on is usually moving, so a mechanical horse could be alright even though it's not a living organism by itself, and if you want a substitute for a time machine perhaps a dragon from Raymond E.Feists Midkemia series could work. As they got the ability to move through time/space.

And well, I mostly put noble in there for topic to look more magnificent ._. And a time machine in itself could be used for more devious purposes than what you'd use it for^ But still valid point :>

Mhh I thought it was something like that and you got it all planned out with actual possibilities of riding it. Damn neat :D

Pft! Go build one out of cardboard boxes :D

I believe it can travel through time aswell as they refer to space and time as the same thing, if I recall correctly. But it can definitely travel between worlds and protects you against the vacuum in space and such other minor things ;>

More European shape. Definitely not serpentine. Or that's the impression I got at least.

And there are different races of dragons of course, like red, golden, etc.

Quote
Dragons - the most ancient race in Midkemia after the Dragon Lords. They served the Valheru as mounts. Since the fall of the Dragon Lords, the dragons have generally isolated themselves from contact with any other race. A notable character, Rhuagh, was an ancient gold dragon who lived in the Mac Mordain Cadal mines.

/e I can definitely recommend these books! Really awesome stories :>
