What are you into?

I'll second Furby's suggestion of "Slaughterhouse-Five." Vonnegut is a riot.

If you do like Slaughterhouse-Five, I think "Catch-22" might be up your alley as well.

Want a quick and easy classic? You might try "Lord of the Flies."

Want a culture kick? A little Russian drama perhaps? Try "The Idiot" by Dostoevsky. A little weird and more modern Russian classic? Try "Pnin" by Nabakov.

And when all else fails, I've always got to point in the direction of Homer. "The Odyssey" and "The Iliad."

Oh, another quickie... for a weird little adventure, try "Candide" by Voltaire.

if you like football then try out Playing for Pizza by Grisham, i was skeptical at first but it was a good story.

If you're into crime/thrillers and suspense, you should look into "The Assocate" -by John Grisham. It's a fairly long read and you might have to try somewhat hard to get into it at first, but its a great read.
I read it for a class I was taking during a 2 year course.

A brief summary of it is, A washed out basketball coach gets blackmailed by someone who threatens to reveal his past to a particular woman, involving him, 2 of his friends and her who happens to be in town.
He's later hired by a big law firm and told to reveal secrets from within the firm to the guy who's threatening to blow his past out of the water.

It gets pretty exciting mid story, almost to the point you can't put it down. But by then you'll want to finish it. It's not too big of a novel, about average.
But I'd suggest giving it a try :)

It seemed dry for me at first, but 'wanting' to pass and get outta the class motivated me to finish it, lol.

1984 takes a while to get into. One of my favs but even ill admit it can be a dry read at times.

If you want a good inspiring read, i'd recommend The Alchemist
