i agree reading the hobbit first makes other events make much more since, although bilbo was writing the hobbit throughout lotr and continued by frodo

i read the hobbit and enjoyed it, was starting 2 read lotr but couldnt get into it.. then the movies came out.. so i never bothered again

technically the hobbit comes way before the lord of the rings so it would be book one. the hobbit and the trilogy rules, one of the greatest books ive read
