Anything by H. P. Lovecraft. You can check out my user blog, I've been posting some of his works on a semi regular basis.

Once again I gotta say The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien, who is worldwide known as one of the most outstanding philologists (literary studies, history and linguistics) ever lived, as well as being an English professor for over 30 years, used incredible vocabulary in his books. There are extremely few authors that masters English the way he could.

His works are in the genre Epic Fantasy btw.

kaplan is a study help business in america that recommends learning vocab by groups (words with same meanings) and 2) latin/greek root words

tbh thats an efficient but boring way to learn vocab. read the classics of english literature, from 1800+. then read some academic research on those books. become familiar w/ the popular vocab there and u'll have college level english in no time.

People commented me that I have improved my english writting...etc due to reading alot of news...etc so I rather have books to read instead of learning... As you said it is very boring.
