you say they are not in competition than each other

when a movie is based on a book, uses the same characters, base story line, etc, they sure as hell DO compete with each other...well, i guess not really, since generally the movie sucks compared to the book

If you appreciate the one, it doesn't mean you cannot appreciate the other.

Cinema is simply different from literature. There's no real way to compare the two. They use different methods to reach different ends.

it sure does mean i cannot appreciate the other, because if i go into a movie expecting there to be the same level of content as a book (which very few movies do) and it doesnt, its very, very disappointing, you must not have read many books and then watched the movies soon after...or you would realize this as well

I'm talking about the art of cinematography in and of itself, and the art of literature in and of itself.

Djeesus, how fucking dense are you?

Have you ever heard the quote "actions speak louder than words"?
Well doesn't this imply that an action movie is better than a book full of words?
Discuss.

I think you're reading too far into that quote. That quote refers to the interaction of people. Also, it has nothing to do with better per se; that's still a topic of subjectivity.

No, you have.

You were the first to bring up movies that are based on books.

My first post just stated the inherent difference between films and books, making them uncomparable as forms of art.

This really depends on the situation and/or personality of the person watching or reading.

Like Eragon, Percy Jacksson and the Lightning Thief the movies really sucked, but the books were really good.

And I rather read a book than watching a movie :P

I really enjoy watching movies, but they will never have the depth/details of the storyline/charachters of books.
