Theres a book called Suck It Up Bout a vampire with dreams to be a superhero, sounds werid but is very good.

I'll second the Charlaine Harris novels. The Southern Vampire Mysteries books were pretty good. There's 10 in all, and starts with Dead Until Dark.

Mostly anything by Clive Barker, he has some great supernatural horror books. On vampires, his Books of Blood series in particular.

Try The Passage, it has a distinctly vampire feel to it, in a virus-spreading world-ending kind of way

So - My advice is to find a few books from a author named Garth Nix. not Vampire like - but necromancer like- which has a higher cool factor. its a series - the books are: Sabriel , Lirael, and Abhorsen. they F' in rock.

Jim Butcher has a really nice selection. Try the Dresden Files, there good.
I haven't tried the Codex Alera series yet tho....
