song of ice and fire is definitely more mature than the sword of truth.

and i only mentioned the gap between books, because many people want to be able to get into a series that will eventually conclude, haha
when he stated that the next book would be released in 2005, that was in 2004, meaning a good amount was already done, considering the amount of time editing, publishing, etc takes.

Try The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen R. Donaldson, a very original writing style so if your tired of forumlaic novels like SoT or Sword of Shannara (not that they aren't good just predictable) read this.
