i was thinking about reading this but wasn't sure if it was wworth it or not

opinions???

Absolutely. I read The Divine Comedy at least twice per year since i was in the 5th grade. Dante is a brilliant man, and his writing is a testament to the very peak of the human capacity for writing. Well worth the time to read.

I've wondered the same thing. I may check out some of the versions at the college bookstore tomorrow.

the comment about reading it with footnotes is spot on

there are so many things he references and alludes too, you're going to miss a lot if you don't have that extra information available

i enjoyed it, though.

Footnotes is the key. Milton's genius is hard to get particularly because he's Milton, and moreso because of the period this book was written in. Good luck!

I have not read it before, from beginning to end. I've read large exerts from it, though, and I have to say it's very dry. For a novel based around a man going through different stages of Hell, I found it incredibly boring.

My sentiments exactly.

It's mostly pretty boring and hard to read but I still kinda liked it.

holy shit, I'm honestly suprised that a 5th grader could understand it let alone appreciate it enough to enjoy it. I'm guessing you moved on to faulkner and joyce by the time you reached middle school?
