nothings wrong with catcher in the rye, just some left wing liberals is whats wrong

catcher in the rye, because it was on the banned list made me want to read it,
after so i loved it

wow kid, liberals banning books? thats new. Liberals are the hippy, free
speach radicals that would allow porn on TV because they hate
censorship. (steriotype ofc, not being literal)

But seriously, great book, and a great way to get one introduced to the Stream of Consciousness writing style.

Why is it banned? Well, it's hardly banned now, most of the banning was earlier in time, about the time it had just come out (I THINK 1940-ish, not sure) and up until about 1970-1980. Not 100% sure on this, but I believe the use of curse words, etc. were frowned on MUCH more back then than they are today.

And just to reiterate, this has NOTHING to do with liberals, it's society.

oh and umm, this is really a great book, as is to kill a mockingbird . tx might have one of the worst educational systems in history, but one thing they don't do is ban books. ain't that right nword jim?

Well for its time it was considered a very bad book. Bad meaning too many curse words and just overal appalling.

For its time it was a very provokitive book. The language was concidered obscene at the time. This book was written in the 1950s remember. It wasn't only the language but some of the ideas were perhaps concidered too mature to be published especially concidering the audience it was geared for.

I think it was the best book that we read all year in my english class. But then again, there weren't any really good books. The two crappiest ones that I can remember are The Crucible and Their Eyes Were Watching God.
