It's actually a play, but it's still a book.
It's actually pretty interesting if you really analyze it and spend months looking at each act carefully, but it gets easily boring since it's so hard to understand and because it's so long.

Everybody I've ever met who's read the Scarlet Letter absolutely hates it.
So why do people keep reading it?

Because it serves an importance in literature?
Books don't need to be appealing to the grand majority of readers for it to be constantly read.
