Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison is one of the better American novels of the twentieth century. You might also consider Huck Finn (Twain), For Whom the Bell Tolls (Hemingway), Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald), The Sound and the Fury (Faulkner), Native Son (Wright), or American Tragedy (Dreiser). All are classics. All are worth reading. Some are easier than others.

Perhaps you should read the Great Gatsby.
