For writing, try "Elements of Style" by Strunk and White.

I would also suggest reading high level literature such as Alexandre Dumas. The vocab in his books are far above the norm and reading high level literature will certainly assist in improving writing skills.

If you aren't familiar with Elizabethan English, Shakespeare can be tough. That said, if you are up for a challenge, you certainly can't go wrong there. Start with an easier play like "Romeo and Juliet." As far as Dumas goes, I think I'd go with someone who actually wrote in English, not someone who wrote in French. Dickens or Conrad might be a good place to start. For a little more modern, you can't beat anything by Orwell.

If u want to improve ur vocab u should look into books with a good vocab variety but made simple so u get the meanings more easily , shakespeare doesnt have the kind of vocab u are going to use even if u decide to write. Just my 2 cents.

I highly suggest reading Shakespeare after you feel as though you have attained this high level of literature skill you are seeking. Shakespeare's language is vastly different from anything you will encounter and you will need a greater understanding to really perceive what he speaks about. Anyone can pick up Shakespeare and read it, but to understand what they are reading, that's a whole different ball game.
