I'm not that fast of a reader, especially when I have to remember what I read.
It makes me go back and reread lines to make sure I remember it.
This is annoying; which is probably why I dislike reading, since it isn't really for enjoyment.

Best way is prolly the most obvious. Just try and find a book that is about something you enjoy.

If you're into sports try reading some sort of memoir by a favourite athlete etc.

Just keep reading books you like and eventually you'll start to enjoy it more and more and nut have to think about it as much.

part of your problem could be distractions, not everyone can read while a radio/tv is playing or they are the passenger in a card, that sort of thing

you may need glasses, this could be making it harder for you to read and comprehend without you really knowing it

like conri said, it helps to read a subject that you enjoy, it also helps to read well-written books, some books are written with terribly hard sentences to comprehend

and lastly, you may be better off looking for large format books, bigger letters = easier reading

I was like you tbh. I never enjoyed reading, especially for academic purposes.

It wasn't until a couple of years ago did I pick up a book for the first time to actually tried to read for enjoyment. I got hooked.

Reading for enjoyment is entirely different than reading for academic purposes. It's like playing a game or watching a movie but better.

You reading pace vastly improves the more you read, same with your vocabulary. My advice would be to pick up a book genre you like which is well acclaimed and just read when your doing your business or something. That's how I started.

What type of genres do you like?
