As you can tell from my profile right now, I am kind of partial to Robert Jordan, but once the hype from the new book wheres off I will be a little more unbiased lol. Besides him I would have to say that I think Terry Goodkind is a great writer even though the last 3 books of the The Sword of Truth were kind of disappointing and he let the tv show slaughter his series. Robert Jordan has been my favorite for years though . . . Anyway tell me your opinion! Who is your favorite fantasy author?

I agree with Jordan. Goodkind's SoT was good, don't think he is one of my favorite though.

I would say George R.R. Martin is my favorite but he needs to get his ass into gear and finish A Song of Ice and Fire.

Haven't read those, but since you like Jordan I will have to give them a try sometime

Every fantasy fan needs to read A Song of Ice and Fire =)

Just be aware that it can be a bit more graphic than Jordan or Goodkind.

Terry Brooks's old Shanara series, I'm not so crazy about his new ones...
I actualy really like Robert Asprin, it's nice when you finish a long series to read some of his stuff.
Piers Anthony hes pretty good too.
Omg I almost forgot, if you get the chance everyone should read Stephen R. Donaldson's Thomas Covenant series

And of course Goodkind.

And whos that Australian author? She's a women she wrote novles abour Axis?

Goodkind is a terrible author who has a good story. He doesn't belong in the same sentence as GRRM.

I supposed that is the wording I was looking for, though maybe not so harsh lol.

The SoT storyline is amazing, the books were good but I suspect only because of the story.

I suppose that I agree with Goodkind being a bad author with a good story, because while the story was amazing I felt like he slaughtered the last 3 books of the SoT series. Idk though. I don't HATE him like everyone else seems to lol. Also, I was wondering how any of you feel about Salvatore. I love him. I think he is a great writer. His character development is fantastic and I like how all the little letters from Drizzt in between parts are like nice little essays. They always seem like something I myself might like to write. If only I were as eloquent.

Salvatore is pretty good, easy read. The Drizzit story line gets a little redundent though; have you read the Caderly series?

Goodkind's shit. Jordan's dead. Erikson's good, but way too convoluted for a lot of people. That leaves GRRM and Bakker.

Lynch and Abercrombie are both pretty damned good too.
