I'm getting more interested in reading about elves, dwarves and dragons. If you could point me in the direction of books like these, it would be most appreciated.

iunno if you've read, but forgotten realms are good...if you havent read, the series kept me occupied for a good 2 months(many many books)

Try books from Forgotten Realms series.
Especially Dark Elf Trilogy

That is a good idea too! And you could try some warhammer fantasy novels. They aren't the best for actual strength of writing but you can't fault their great depiction of elven lore and societies

they're all really good, try to read em in order, i dint, and i picked up
the story quickly, but its better if you read em in order

Im not sure if it has Elfs in it, but I know it had Knights and what not, and I thought it was a great book. It's called "The Transall Saga"
