So I have this Rebel XS. I've been trying to play with depth more, but adjusting the F stop while in AV mode (what the manual said to do).

The pictures just arent coming out right. Lowering my F stop isnt blurring the background out more like it should. Also, even if I put it on auto iso, the pictures come out extremely bright.

Someone mentioned to me to use the M (manual) mode, but at that point I'm not sure how to adjust the F stop.

Put your camera in "P" mode. It's a semi-manual mode that allows you to change the setting you want, while having everything else automatic. Adjust your /f and take some practice shots. See what your camera selects when in different lighting situations and go from there. After you get that down, start playing with your ISO levels. Higher ISO means you can take pictures in lower light but it also means your pictures are prone to grain, and vise versa.

Even though you're a dick to me in the motorsports forums, I'll still help you out with any photography questions you have. Just PM me.
