I'm considering picking up a polarizing filter. I want to step up some of my landscape photography, as well scenic photography particularly involving the sky or water. Is there anyone here who has an opinion about polarizing filters in photography? I realize polarizing filters and ND filters are the two most useful/common photography filters.

There's a Hoya one that sells for $50 which causes some vignetting, and a better one that costs $100 that supposedly is wonderful. The biggest problem for me is the cost: I'd like to be able to put it on each of my lenses without having to use a converter & be unable to use a lens hood. I'm also not sure if it's going to add enough to my photography to really warrant the investment. My largest filter thread is 67mm, and that applies to my normal zoom, telephoto zoom, and 85mm prime, so I could just get some conversion rings for my 50mm & 35mm. Any input on that matter?

its better for wider angles, only really good if you take your time with it too, harder to use as a walk around attachment

Do not buy one unless you plan on purchasing the more expensive one. The less expensive ones are half as good. They're still fun but you only need one if you're REALLY putting it to use

I have one In my bag always, and if I go out for a day street shooting I use it often. I use step down rings but you can also get a cokin system that would fit on all your lenses

I was looking to get one for my wide angle, found them quite expensive for the one I wanted, so I left it. Eventually I'd like to get one though.

Yeah don't settle for the cheap ones. I use mine sometimes primarily for car shoots and removing distracting reflections.

used pol-filter once as i was shooting the interior of a driving car. Never again from then on.

well if you planing to use some filters its never wrong to ask a friend to borrow some equipment. perhaps you also can borrow some stuff from a Studio next to you?
