Now, I have absolutely zero photography experience. Looking for a decent camera, but nothing too ridiculous. was thinking a $400-$500 SLR camera. But I'm not really sure about it all.
Any brand/model recommendations for a rookie? What kind of accessories should I be looking into?
http://www.thesource.ca/estore/category.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=digital-cameras-camcorders I work in one of these stores so I will be buying from here, employee discount etc. So if there's any cameras on there that jump out right away, or even if you have any advice or anything regarding a specific camera, please let me know.

AXIS's advice is good. The D5200 has just been discontinued, and it's worth looking at if you can get it for a good price as well (the D5300 doesn't really offer much over it, mostly just a removed AA filter which doesn't equate to a lot).
DSLR cameras shine when you have a good lens. An initial investment on a DSLR really equates to a cheap kit lens, and whatever DSLR you have. With a D3200 or D5200, you'll have a body that is capable of doing lots... but you'll see better quality out of more expensive lenses. Generally a good lens in a budget range will cost you around $200-$250 (fixed focal length prime lens). A good zoom lens can get really expensive, but a cheaper good one is still in the $400-$500 range (if you want quick aperture).
I've probably spewed a ton of words you don't know. If you're buying a DSLR, you'll have to learn about all of this anyway in order to understand and operate your camera properly (otherwise a DSLR is pointless). It's fun though
