Just note that these photographs are for an English project. I'm getting to do this instead of having to write an argumentative essay :)

I will have a time-limit. I will have to get my shots done in a full day, or at most two half-days. Editing can come afterward and is no issue, but I need to get my concepts down immediately. So, I'm looking for some help (input & guidance). If you have experience with taking interesting (conceptually, artistically, etc) photographs, please post and let me know that you're willing to help.

An example of one of the photographs I plan to take: In the book, there is a swinging light bulb hanging from the ceiling. The scene is timed and comes to an end based on when the light comes to a full stop. I want to take a photograph that depicts this. Note also that the book plays on the idea (it has it explicitly written at the start) about how the scenes should be seen as black & white with color bleeding into elements of the scene (a theme I'll take with the majority of my photos in editing). I was thinking for this picture, I'd do a multi-picture overlay, one picture with a slow shutter, another with a quicker shutter, and another with a really fast shutter. But I really don't know what I'll be doing.

I don't have an ultra-wide: 16mm on DX is my widest. I realize a macro lens, and/or an 11-16mm Tokina (or something like that) might provide me with some more creative options for inanimate objects.

Anyway, I'm hoping someone could work with me a little bit (basically I'll provide examples of the types of shots I want to do, and I'd like to get input on how I should go about composing the shot, etc). My gear: Nikon D5200, 16-85mm VR, 70-300 VR, 35mm 1.8G, 85mm 1.8G. I still don't have a speedlight which I now regret not having purchased for this very project.
