I'm going to take my 35mm in to the Nikon service center either this weekend or next weekend (I haven't gotten around to it yet, been busy & too lazy to drive there). If it comes back and it's still inconsistent on focus, I'm going to craigslist it (and honestly state that I'm having troubles focusing on it to the buyer) and just sell it at a discount alongside the lens filter for it. If it comes back and it works perfectly, then I'll be happy and all will be good. I'll keep it for sure in that case.

But if it comes back and doesn't work out for me... should I give another 35mm 1.8G a chance? I just imagine the lens being poorly built if my first one doesn't work. I really want a 50mm 1.8G and 85mm 1.8G, so maybe if the 35mm dosen't work out I'll just stick to the 50mm... but I do find the two focal lengths to be distinctly different on DX (22.5mm difference with 1.5x crop taken into consideration).

I'm wondering, how do budget prosumer grade lenses last (like the 35mm 1.8G)? Do people often have the internals break down on them? This is something that I've never really thought about until now.

If I had to to it all again I would probably go with a 50mm prime, 11-16 wide angle, and 55-300 (or a nicer one pending funds) telephoto.
I find that in a lot of situations the 35mm isnt quite wide enough. Id just as well go for a bit more length and then a really wide lens in addition
