it really allows for an almost un-usable picture to turn out.

this pic was blown out even at 1/8000 shutter speed. (i hate shooting closed apertures) But with a little work with the levels and grain added in LR, i loved the results. Try it.

Its ok for me i like little bit over exposed picture but i would work on eyes more then you did here sir ;)
