Hi, I'm Cooper. I used to post here a little bit(back in '11 maybe?) but never participated as I did not have a camera.

Ima be posting 1 picture a day in this thread for the next year.
Or try to at least. If I can't post for a day, then I'll post it the next day.
I may post more than 1 in an album some days, but the "best" one or my favorite will be embedded in the post.

This is my SECOND day of owning a DSLR, or a camera in general.
I currently use a Nikon D3000 with AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G VR lens but the lens will probably change some days(not for a while.)

This is a personal thing mainly but also for constructive criticism.

So without further ado...

Day 1:

Keep in mind that I'm a complete noob :)

Tips and tutorials(are there photo tutorials?) are always appreciated.

Thanks for lookin :)

welcome back
365 projects are a great way to learn, improve and get inspired
looking forward to your regular posts

I like the exposure / black bg
but the crop is too tight, need to see more of it especially down to the base of the lamp

Thank you :)

Would something like http://i.imgur.com/79OUMBj.png have been better?

Also, I did these today but didn't really *love* any of them.

Thanks for the encouragement :)

Day 2:

She's a friend of mine. Her name is Sarah. You'll probably see more of Sarah sometime.

Looking at it now, it's sorta annoying that her hands are up, but pretend they're not there <3

Also, can someone tell me how to take a nice self-portrait?

Shes cute. Pic is nice too.
Sharp, well exposed, looks like its pretty close to the 2/3 rule too.

I use a wireless remote any time I want to do a self portrait. Makes it pretty easy to trigger at least, getting the settings right takes a couple tries.

self portraits for the most part are pretty cheesy IMO. Unless it's done to make it not look like one.

That picture you took could use some editing in lightroom. Her face looks flat compared to her hair to me.

I'm bored most nights, if you wanna send me the raw so i can show you what i'd do to it, let me know. People have their own style though, so if you're completely happy then that's great!

This picture was pretty flat when i took it.
