I want a point and shoot camera because I already have both an SLR and DSLR.
We're planning to travel abroad the next few years and I want to go unhindered by a clunky SLR and bag.

I have compared several models and didn't feel like dropping more than 600 on a PAS, so it comes down to these two.

Pentax MX-1
4x optical zoom
f/1.8 W - f/2.5 T
1/8000 shutter speed
http://www.pentaxwebstore.com/product/37006

Canon G15
4x optical zoom
f/1.8 W - f/2.8 T
1/4000 shutter speed
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital%5Fcameras/powershot%5Fg15

The only difference I can see is the shutter speed and brand.

the questions I have to you are;

Do any of you have experience with Pentax brand products?
Would it be worth getting over the Canon listed or vice versa?
Could you provide some unbiased insight as to why you have come to your conclusion? (no mudslinging plz, especially over brand names)

thanks for reading! and thanks for responding in advance! :D

all I can say is I have used some G series canon's, G11, G12 and G1x
I love them, brilliant and a great back-up camera
if you don't need the hotshoe then just get the s110 etc, brilliant little camera

I've had great luck with the Canon point and shoot's (the s110 is great!). I can't say I've used any other kind, though, before. Not trying to be all brandy either. I'm not apposed to other brands, but it's the only one that has always worked well for me, so I stick with what I know, sort of thing. I have heard good things about the G series as well, lots of people seemed to like them.
