For now i am using a canon 650D with a tamron 18-200mm but i think about buying a non zoom one. Whats the best mm to start off with ? I am pretty much a beginner so i want to use it for as many things as possible (not only landscape or portrait...). What do you think about the Canon EF 50mm 1:1.8 II Objektiv ? I dont want to spent too much money for a lens now as long as i dont know if i feel comfortable without zoom.

any advice would be very appreciated :)

Consider a 35mm if you're on crop-sensor. It's a nice focal length.

I don't think you can go wrong with 35 or 50 though. All the advice I've been given as a beginner is that it's going to be subjective, and it's based on what you shoot.

well with a prime lens it is not really going to be a multifunction lens
the 50mm 1.8 is a brilliant buy and will be a good walk-about and portrait lens but will be a bit too long for indoors
the 35 on a cropped is still too wide for most landscape shots, will be better indoors especially things like parties etc

it always depends on what you want to shoot.
85mm 1.8 is known for being extra sharp and an amazing lens for portraits. (but it will be a pain in the ass when you'll be in small places)
But for the style of photography i like to do.
I do everything using around 20mm to 35 mm.
I never do close up portraits (i dont do that much portraits but i love to see landscape with a person in it.)

Example (not my photo) it's from benoit paillé (Quebec/canada)
He said that he mostly use Fullframe + 35mm lens.
(Around 21mm on a crop sensor to get the same "zoom" as him on a cheaper camera)
