In what ways should I edit this photo to make it look as good as possible?

(It's one of a few wildlife photos I took on my camping trip with the gf. Just getting a hang for Photoshop Lightroom 5.)

you should first crop it so that there is more snake and less trees/branches. especially on the left.

yea that might help a bit , but even some more jpg processing would make it much better

I concur with the crop. I'd use a plug to blur out a little of that background, boost some levels in the color on the snake itself.

That is how I would RETOUCH the image. (editing refers to the selection process technically and motion picture manipulation, writings, etc while retouching refers to paintings and photographs ... technically.)
