50mm or 35mm?
I'm using a Nikon D3100

50mm costs slightly more than the 35mm.

idk the crop factor of nikon, but i know the d3100 isnt full framed so the 35 will be closer to an actual 50 (still tighter i believe), while the 50 would be closer to an 70-80mm.

the d3100 has an APS-C sensor with crop factor 1,5, which makes the 35mm pretty much a 50mm and the 50mm into a 75mm. that pretty much sums it up. Now you have to think about what you´re shooting, and wether or not you need a wide angle or not. An effective 50mm is perfect for upper body portraits, the 75mm is even better for head shots. your choice.

I think I've decided for the 35mm, to start with, then I'll get a decent zoom-lens later.

I'll rather have to walk 2 steps closer, than 2 steps away.

If I were you I´d skip the zooms. They make you lazy and cant keep up with primes in terms of quality.

I can't go with a 35mm or 18-55mm forever.. I'm gonna need some good zoom for sport etc.

I'm not gonna get lazy or anything, I just feel I miss shots often cuz I can't afford a very good zoom-lens.

the only 2 zooms that make sense in my opinion, are the 24-70mm and the 70-200mm

well i am curious how it turned out. I got a d3100 myself but i prefer the 50mm one. is true since is not a Fx camera will act more like a 75 mm~ but i like it better.

as for the telephoto.. depends on your budged. a 55 200/300 is a nice lens for that price.. whoever if u got the money.. can't beat a 70-300mm
