When doing a photo shoot with feemale models what do most hobby photographers do about makeup and hair? Is it the norm to have the girl do it her self, does the photographer step in and do a little or all of the make up, or do you bring a second girl along to act as the makeup artist?

i use proper mua and hair stylists
if you want them free approch hair/make-up "schools" and look for students near the end of their course, that normally want high quality photo's for their portfolios

stay away from models doing their own make-up, make-up is very important
imo order of importance (for shoots with models) lighting > make-up > lens > camera, then again make sure you can make her comfortable

Cosmetology students is probably your best bet. For a student to do make up and have a good photographer shoot it, It`s a win win and a very good opportunity for them. They need you as much as your need them.

I actually started a collaboration group at my college and was a major hit! We had a well networked group of fashion design students, make-up artists and photographers.
