I would appreciate it if you were able to list the advantages / disadvantages.
I'm a beginner photographer but as of making this decision I'm not looking to take professional photos for clients.
I plan to just use it on vacations, at parties such as raves or to take it camping.
I would also like video recorder that would allow me to get detailed audio/video quality.
Any questions? Please ask.
Also please explain things such as when talking about ISO, I'm a newb after all :P

Would the S100 take great night photos w/ the flash is used?
Also I assume the shutter lens error has been fixed by now/they don't have those on the market anymore without the "upgrade".

no camera will take great night photos with a popup flash, not to the smaller sensor size. but the flash is good enough to get shots i suppose.

but dont expect very good night shots with either camera.

my preference for a smallish m43s camera would definitely be the olympus om-d atm :P but thats like 1000+ and lenses are like a grand each soo...:P

of the two youve listed, id go with the canon s100 since it also has better video mode irrc.

I'm just wondering if it would take good photos in certain environments:

That was taken with an HTC Inspire 4G camera @8MP
Would have the S100/J2 taken a better photo?
NO flash was used.

i really dont know since i dont go to raves and take pictures lol.

i would expect them to, and there really isnt a need for flash in that instance because a lot of light is coming out, but idk, sometimes the autofocus of fancier cameras are wonky and refuse to work.

I would have the option to turn off autofocus on the S100 or so I believe.

i nulled my vote
the best on you list is certainly the S100, i sometime use the older S90 and am very happy with what it can produce
the newer S110 is now out so u may want to look at that
you said u would like to do night shots with flash, if that is important to you then i would suggest looking at the Canon g15, again have used the older g12 and its awesome, you can then use a flash that is used on DSLR's, and there i would suggest the yongnuo yn-565ex

but obv it all come down to what you are willing to spend

I'll def. check out the g15 more.
But as of now I'm stuck on s100 or g15 unless the Nikon 1j2 is a lot better/upgraded than the j1 and I haven't check out the Nikon 1 v1 neither.
