megapixels are pretty much the last thing you look for in a camera.

just answer these

this going to be a long term hobby or something you want to use at social events
whats youre price range
point and shoot or dslr
do you have any experience in photography?

just from your post i would assume you want a simple point and shoot.

S95 and S100 are great cameras. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure Canon just released a newer version of these cameras... so now there's 3 out there. I own the S100 and love it.

MP is high enough of a number these days, any camera you get is good enough. It's the camera you want to take a look at, quality, etc. Also how much are you looking to spend?

I really like the S95/S100/S110 but how does it compare to Nikon 1?

its a different camera.
Think about what system you want, nikon1 works with interchangable lenses, S series canons dont, just point and shoot.

if you want to get a mirrorless camera, i wouldnt get the nikon1..

this

if u willing to spend more money on lenses atc then go for a mirrorless
but i would suggest one of those p&s as they are simple to use, great image quality and no changing of lenses (zooms from wide to tele)

Yeah, those new cameras with the interchangeable lenses (that nikon) seem pretty neat. I believe Canon has one out as well. They're like mini SLR's. I really don't know though lol
