Hi all!

Parents want to get me an external flash for my nikon d7000 for christmas, but I'm having trouble deciding on which one to get!

I want to use the flash primarily for shooting family events and other events in low lit areas, like reception halls and that sort of stuff. Does anyone have experience with event photography and can recommend a flash? I was thinking the sb-700, but Im not sure!

I noticed when i take photos at family events, the flash is pretty bad, and i'd like for my photos to come out brighter, like this for example

suggestions for equipment?

a sb-700 is a fine choice. i would recommend a good diffuser. i use a Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible sometimes, which IMO is the best diffuser for event photography by far.
good luck!

the Gary Fong Lightsphere is bad, you can get much better results just by bouncing the light off the ceiling or walls (you have much more control this way)
even better is get the flash off camera and start using a softbox

^ Word. Grab some cheap ass Cowboy Studio triggers and receivers on Amazon (They're like $20 bucks, and they work just fine. Just don't be too far away from the flash)
