I just got a DSLR Nikon D5100. I have been watching videos on youtube of different tutorials, but when I read the comments people say they aren't teaching it correctly. Anyone have some tutorials they used or would recommend?

I dont actualy understand what kind of tutorials are you searching?
If its camera using tutorials then better drop it, just learn what is aperture, shutter speed, iso - put your camera from autosettings to manual and just test your ass off!
Trust me you will learn.
if its about editing the photos then its different.

basically just read up the relation between and what the following mean; iso, aperture and shutter speed
then just get practicing, shoot the same thing with several different settings you will soon learn what does what

dont bother using manual yet, most ppl dont unless they are using flashes
most popular (for good reason) is aperture mode, unless u shooting sports etc, then u change to shutter speed priority

also read up on rule of thirds
