how compatible will it be with digital cameras such as canon 5d mark II ? I undestand that adapters can be used but what I dont understand is how well or how poorly will this lens perform on a digital ? can somebody please educate me a little bit here

Unfortunately, there is no good way to attach FD lenses to the newer Canon mounts.

To mount a Canon FD lens to an EF mount you need an adapter, the only ones available use glass elements, which results in degraded photo quality. If you want to use full manual lenses on a Canon body, buy old Nikon lenses and an adapter for Nikon to Canon EF.

Because of the way Nikon lenses are made, the adapter for those lenses has no glass and therefore does not reduce photographic quality.

Snatch up the 85 1.8. The glass quality on it is amazing for a non L and the 9 aperature blades give it an amazing bokeh.

An example from the 85 1.8. Taken at 1.8 on a 1.6 crop sensor camera.

that is a lovely photo and indeed the bokeh is aesthetic! this 85 your speaking of is not a FD though is it? The SLR camera I'm using is a Canon T90 so the lens must be FD

is this the one you mean?
