I agree with cmajor, it's really the one that works best for you. One isn't necessarily better than the other.
I chose Nikon though. Through a lot of research and my own trial and error, I've come to love Nikon.

I meant, why did you choose canon/nikon, why not the another one?

i decided myself for a cannon, where the stabilization is in the lens not on the chip (grate english :). + later perhaps if i feel lucky i try another firmware

got myself a Pentax working with Nikons and prefer Canon.

started with nikon, now shoot canon
canon suits my requirement and the best value for money
nikon are certainly better in the entry lvl market and they are more ergonomic and easier to use
