Why are you guys recomending he gets a Canon?

Canon is known for it's DSLR's that take good fast AF pictures but they have TOTAL SHIT P&S cameras like the SXXX series

Hell even the new S110 still has the same slow AF and image processing.

I would never buy a canon for a point and shoot. ever

sure the IQ might be better than nikon. but atleast Nikon like the P310 has super fast AF and a decent lens.

The only "good" thing about the S series canons is the sensor size of 1/1.7 but that isn't a miracle lol.

For your budget I would recommend a Lumix LX5 (if you want a fast lens)

If you need a telephoto lens I would recommend a Panasonic TZ30

i have used a few p series and s series, far prefer the s series, they are amazing little things
