You freeze him so he becomes stiff and cant fly. You can place him anywhere and take pics without have to worry about getting stung.

Actually this is a bad method.

the ice crystals that expand ruin the body

you want to make a device called a kill jar. Insect collectors like myself use one.

Ideally you have a jar with a rag inside that is soaked in nail polish remover. (the harsh chemicals smother the insect very quickly)

It also has the advantage of preserving the body

Now you dont want the bugs getting in contact with the nail polish remover directly. so you just cut out a square part of cardboard and drop it on top of the rag.

Mason jars are best used to make kill jars.

we dont totally freeze them, they only get chilled for a very short time, this is only to lower their body temp so they become dosile and dont move

this is what i meant. Didnt actually mean completely freeze them haha
