Hey guys I'm on the edge to purchase a new lense but I would love a 50mm. The problem I am having is rather I should choose a Sigma or a Nikon? Any suggestions?

nikon is faster / sharper
Sigma is heavier and has a slower af but has nicer bokeh
also its hard to grab a good copy since there is lots of variation in sharpness some lenses are as good as the nikon.

my vote goes to the nikon... since it`s faster, lighter, sharper..

Yeah, I have heard about Sigma's hard to get a decent copy. I know that many send them back for calibration. Great lens, though, if you got a good copy. But I'd probably go with Nikon.

What do you guys think about the Nikon AF-S 50mm F/1.4?

I just went for the 50 1.8g ... its fine and not that expensive... and the bokeh on the 1.8g is quite nice imo

true story

@monte_paul

drawbacks in quality and build quality but overall a good lens. Still, rather get the 50 1.8G
or if you got the money the 50 1.4 G is what you will want,
If you are patient or just order "a few" 50 1.4 Sigma lenses go with the sigma (if you dont need a fast autofocus and give a shit about weight)

i had the nikon 50mm 1.8 a few years ago and loved it
a friend had the nikon 50mm 1.4, in many cases mine was sharper

i would recommend the 1.8, and for the price its unbeatable
