When was the last time you had nice feedback from this forum?

Thats a rhetorical question.

The point to this post that people on this page do not praise or encourage each other at all. I'm not saying criticism is bad, far from it, but i feel this forum forgets that photography is self expression and most shots have personal meaning. It's about expression. You want to show something.

I rarely post here because of this reason, Its like we are all wanting to be the best which means we cannot appreciate other peoples art.

Did Van Gogh gaze at a Da Vinci master piece and say "theres a dark spot in the top left" or "wrong skin tone" ?

Art is art, we should all respect that more.

Nicely said!
I hardly present any photos here myself, as what I like seems quite different from the high standards here and even when you only want to show and share, people find the way to put down what you like and worked hard for...
Then people get all high up when you say something....
We lost so many good people, I wonder if we'll ever get them back

I've rarely ever made any negative comments here. I think. I guess I may have from time to time, but that's usually because the picture itself is bad, or I am trying to give some constructive feedback in order to help him improve for next time.

I'll be posting here more often now. It's my favorite forum anyway. :)

You're right, its a personal expression. But art is also very subjective so it has a different meaning for everyone. So if you can't take the heat, best to stay out of the kitchen. You will never grow if you only hear "cool, nice, love it"

Here's a cold reality for ya.. few people here have any genuine artistic talent. The rest take snap shots and lack any technical ability.

Understanding your medium is so vital. And I don't mean having $10000 worth of gear.

I try and give critique and give advice as best I can without being negative.

For some its worth it, but most I dont bother.

Some people can appreciate photos without being nitpicky.

I feel bad sometimes when I say photos are nice, or pretty, etc though. Because I feel like people that post here would rather get actual cnc than compliments. Im on other forums where I know the people wouldnt be able to deal with cnc so its just a lot of "great photos" back and forth. Those people have issues improving, tbh.

Yes. Exactly. It's art. There are no rules.

I just share here regardless of what people say. I try to stay positive. And if I ask for advice, I listen, and take whatever I feel like from that advice. I don't start a fight about it because I might think they are wrong... I just shut up and ignore it.

All of the people I enjoyed talking to in here are no longer around so I do miss a lot of them.

I try to stay positive in what other people show here, after all, this is just for fun, I'm not here to whip people around like they don't know what they're doing.

It's irrelevant love and I would never discuss it.

I'm just saying that many people (not specifically this forum) pass off their snapshots as "art" and then expect some sort of protection from negative critique "cause it's art and you just don't understand it" . That's bullshit. To me, "art" is something that has involved a thought, a concept, it's a story, has involved some sort of technical execution ie. in photography, actually knowing how to read light. And if you can't naturally, learn to? I definitely am no self proclaimed artist or master photographer, damn far from it. But fuck it, I'm trying.

People who ride the sheltered plateau of mediocrity continually take the same shots over again and I see no improvement so why bother even critiquing?

I'm not mad, promise lol
