I've never connected my canon rebel to a pc before, so I'm not sure why I can't seem to figure out how to get the raw files off it. I'm use the camera cord adapter..do I need to get a card reader?

Any help is appreciated.

edit: i'm downloading a program now that will hopefully solve this issue.

Have you tried this?

Turn off camera.
Hook up cable.
Turn on camera (Windows sees camera and lets you copy files)
Turn off camera when done.
Unhook cable.

Apparently you have to do all of the above in that order. Can't try it myself though..

/edit: You may need to install a driver as well that is specific to the model you own.

Thanks for your help and yes, I've tried that. The simple method I've tried to do was just grab the file straight off the camera. Right now I'm installing a program that the camera contents will be brought into. Hopefully this will bring in the CR2 file instead of converting it to a jpeg.

I also found this: "Go into the menu, scroll down and set "Communication" to "PTP" instead of "Normal". That way, if you have Windows 2000 or XP (and maybe it also works with other operating systems - I don't know) you should be able to see your camera pop up as a removeable drive when you connect it to the computer. The "Normal" mode only works with Canon's software."

/edit: Once again, I can't confirm this.... :(

I figured it out! It was a security-related feature that kept me from designating a file location for the CR2s, which is while I just grabbed them straight off the camera. I was trying to download to a folder on my desktop, but once I tried putting a folder into my C:drive it worked. Again, thanks for your suggestions.

Haha glad you figured it out. I was gonna suggest maybe using the software that your camera came with (should be on a CD) I use that to transfer the files.
