Hey dudes!

I am looking to buy a relevantly decent point and shoot camera. I don't even know if I can get what I am looking for with the price budget, but again I am open to suggestions if I have to go a little higher.

Things I am looking for:

Able to take video (hd quality maybe? Is that possible?)
Decent picture quality
Something that doesn't take AA batteries, I'd like a decent battery life as well.

I am using this camera for activities in which I don't plan on getting the most perfect shot that I'd like to use my DSLR for. I'd like this camera for the compactness of it, and the easy to carry with you type of deal.

I also will be using this camera for activities such as zip lining (so it's easier to take with me while doing the activity) etc. Even going out to social outings with friends. I also would probably be mostly using the video part a lot as well.

I haven't looked at these for years, I don't know what ones are good. I was thinking of sticking with Canon, but I am open to suggestions & any tips/things I should stay away from, things to look for etc. I sound like a noob again.

Thank you for your time

Chantal

I was looking at the Canon s95 & 100 (is the 100 the newer version of the 95?) They're sort of out of my price range, but I might consider it.

save up and buy a x100 or the new sony nex7

edit:

then you would find less of a need for an slr......

mirrorless cameras are the way forward. suberb image quality (superb noise handling on the x100 dunno about the nex7 yet although first signs are good) small compact bodies, full manual controls. if you like bokeh shots then an slr is what is required for any other non comercial shot these cameras are on par with any slr on the market

Those are way out of her price point/needs......

Plus the technology on those need a couple rounds of refinement.

I think I am going to stick with the Canon brand, just cause I've had them before and they have served me well.

x100 - you mean Canon x100?

Okay, thanks!

So I have read! I wondered if both have the same image quality? I will get one in a while, thought I'd do some research now about them.

How about the Panasonic LX5 ? Camera store guy told me to check it out, he thought it was a good one as well. But he told me he didn't really know much about the s100. Was kinda wondering how the two compared.

What do you mean by a couple rounds of refinement? I do like the looks of those cameras, they are pretty cool. And the pancake lens name is funny. Don't really know about their performance although they have a better/bigger sensor on them. Probably won't go for it anyway, just want something smaller. I already have a big camera that can be in my way - lol.

I've seen lots of videos done with these cameras and they actually do pretty good! In fact a youtuber that I follow blogs on uses this one. I considered this one, and realized I could go for a higher budget now (yay for tax return  ) So I am going to get the Canon S100. The photography store here made me doubt my original decision (only because they didn't have the canon in stock, is my reasoning why they suggested others), and I checked out other cameras because of that, and still steer towards the Canon  Thanks Marie :)
