Yeah I know you peeps say get 1.4 but my friend sold it to me for 90 bucks so I was like sure :P
I was shooting at 1.8 at first but it was to soft so I bumped it up to 2.8

None are edited but I think I should edit numba 2 and 4 is a little bright, or maybe shot at higher f/stop

Canon 50mm 1.8? Ya it's pretty soft up until 3.5 or so. at f/4 it really shines.

That seems to be the case sometimes! I think I have tried it at 1.8 and wasn't impressed with the results, turned out much like these photos in the thread here. This is good to know.

bad lighting
AWB in jpeg
high compression
and so on

There are lenses out there that are worse than the EF 50 f1.8 II and I have seen high quality photos taken with that lens at f1.8.

i currently use a 50mm 1.8. i love it.. i always set iso at 100 and my f/1.8. shutter speed according to light and maybe a flash if I'm indoors and bounce it off the ceiling. try taking pictures of people with this lense. you'll be surprised at how good of a single person portrait lense it can be.
