So I know this could be better.

Better in these ways: the light

I think I did good at capturing the smiles and the composition.

I did some slight lightroom editing, but again, I have no experience in that either. But I think it looks better than before at least! :D

The only thing I have is an external flash to help me out light wise. I don't do pictures like this often, though. But I have this deep down feeling of wanting to get better, even though I may be stubborn at first.

Merry Christmas Photo section! :)

protips:

man/baby in front of wive so that she does not look so big.
farther from the wall to avoid shadow

most importantly:
baby's santa hat to the side so we can see the fluffy. it fucks up the whole image.

You have me as your friend and you do not request lightroom help?
Are you ill, Chantal?

I want to do this on my own! :D

I don't know what I'd ask you to help me with, lol. I am at a way beginner stage.

Thanks for the tips!

The hat, however, we tried to work on that, and he'd fire it off his head if we touched it. Lol.

lets be honest, you´ve been on a beginner level for the whole past year. I mean post editing wise. You could have asked omar for help in 2010 already :P

I ask for help, and he does the 'work' for me.

I don't really know how to learn on this type of thing. You can show me, but I'll forget in 30 seconds.

And the fact that I don't necessarily enjoy portraits is probably another main reason why I've been 'beginner' for so long now. So now you might ask 'why do you take portraits?' My answer is; because my family wanted some unprofessional photos

Here are some other pictures I did of family a while back. (2009) I very much prefer to take them outside instead of inside. But still, there is always issues with my portraits

So I've been a noob since 2009!

I didn't edit these ones though.

 @ hating portraits!!!
I hate doing portraits also unless it's someone with their horse and I don't really have to direct them... otherwise people have fake smiles, doN't know how to position themselves and I don't know how to make them position themselves either...
As far as taking photos inside, I think without the whole umbrella or whatever setting, it's hard... I don't have such gear either and it discourages me from trying also.. I prefer outdoor shots like the last 2 you posted, people feel more at ease and you don't have to bother so much with the light and flash..
But for your 'studio' portrait, I think it's great other than the shadows.. can you delete them with the clone tool?
